VITAMINS: FUEL FOR THE HUMAN MACHINE

[Excerpt] "The human body is a marvelous creation. It is vastly more complex and well designed than even the most intricate machine. But like a machine, it requires a power source, fuel, if you will, to insure its proper function and maximum efficiency. This power is found in the form of vitamins and minerals.

Simply put, vitamins are organic substances made by plants and animals, while minerals are inorganic elements that come from soil and water. Clever and sometimes confusing marketing would have you believe that the only way to give your body what it needs on a daily basis is by supplementing these power sources. Consequently, vitamin and mineral capsules are all the rage, especially in the fast-food, fast-lane, instant gratification mindset that permeates much of our society. The general public is under the mistaken belief that popping a pill is just as effective - indeed perhaps more effective - as eating nutritious food. Every day we are bombarded with new ‘miracle’ vitamins that will make us healthier, smarter, more energetic, better lovers, ad nausea, ad infinitum. In reality, the average adult only needs 13 vitamins, 19 minerals, 9 amino acids, and about 1,300 catalytic enzymes to maintain optimum health. From these “building blocks” the body can and will itself manufacture what it needs, provided it is properly fed."

TASTE MATTERS

[Tasting Note] "The somewhat brooding black and brown bottle belies what awaits inside. The Local 1 pours a light gold with a bubbly, creamy head. The nose smacks of bubblegum, flowers, and spice. It washes smoothly over the tongue with a medium mouthfeel that mixes "Belgian flair" with mild hops and plenty of spiciness. Don't rush to suck this one down (even on the hottest of days).
